Overwhelmed with the plethora of new tracks and tour announcements, we decided to take a look back and choose three of our favorite releases from last year. Below, you can read more about Nevada duo Surf Curse, New York's rock 'n' roll brothers The Lemon Twigs, and Ohio indie rockers Cloud Nothings.

Surf Curse – Nothing Yet

Angst-ridden, beach lo-fi duo with the drummer singing lead – I’m addicted! Surf Curse's songs overflow with passion, and frustration. Glimpses of hope are intertwined in every track, which caused me to put the album on repeat throughout the roller coaster year. Nick Rattigan’s distinctive vocals, fast-paced drumming and Jacob Rubeck’s dramatic guitar echoed in my mind constantly. When I finally saw them headline a sold out show at Downstairs (Subterranean) September 2017, I was hooked.

Latest -- Playing out west

The Lemon Twigs – Brothers of Destruction EP

With two brothers making music that can be described as rock musicals, the catchy vocals and vibrant instrumentation takes you back to ‘60s psychedelic times. Feel-good rock n roll is hard to come by and when this EP released, I had it on repeat for over four hours straight. When I saw The Lemon Twigs perform at Thalia Hall this past October, I couldn’t comprehend how they were making such impeccable, original music at such a young age. From the harmonies to their incredible fashion sense, I can’t wait for their next full-length release.

Latest -- Released new song "If You Give Enough" from upcoming album Go To School

Cloud Nothings - Life Without Sound

Seeing this band headline Thalia Hall and perform at The Vic last year, Cloud Nothings draws attention of listeners instantly - regardless of age. Being a sucker for dramatic music, this is one of the first 2017 albums I snagged. Front man Dylan Baldi challenges his vocal range throughout the record, permitting a balance of singalongs and punchy notes. The introspective lyrics can resonate with anyone, whether it's dealing with relationships, depression, or self-doubt. Influenced by noise-rock and adding their own flare, keep these guys on your radar.

Latest -- Been lowkey this year
